The first posting in my blog has been quite an intimidating exercise. What should I write? Will it be inspiring? Will it be good enough? What about all the other blogs out there? Where will mine stack up? As I pondered over what to blog or, indeed, whether to bother blogging at all, these questions came up for me over and over again.
Then I remembered something I had read in a book by professor and author, Brené Brown. Not only is she a world-renowned researcher, she is also a swimmer. Unfortunately I’m not a world-renowned researcher, but I am a swimmer. Brené explains in her book that one of the reasons she swims is the constant reminder it gives her to “stay in her own lane”. These words really resonated with me, not only as a swimmer, but also as a metaphor for how we can so easily apply this to other areas of our lives.
So, here’s my first blog insight that I want to share – if we can swim in our own lane and blog in our own lane, perhaps we can also create and run our business – in our own lane.
