It feels amazing when we are inspired by an idea and become motivated to put it into action. However, what is it that keeps us going when we start to feel insecure, experience setbacks, get rejected, and lose confidence? Some may slow down, lose energy or just give up altogether. So, what is it about those who choose to keep going with their idea, keep moving forward with it, and face the challenges head on?
Resilience describes an ability to adapt, recover, and bounce back from setbacks. We all have this ability. It is not a matter of separating the strong from the weak, suggesting some of us are resilient, while others are not. I would argue that it’s the idea itself that will determine how resilient we are in our pursuit of it.
If we are all able to face adversity, through resilience, when pursuing our ideas, what it is about those ideas that make them worth pursuing? Sometimes our ideas come from what we think we should do, and not what we truly want to do. We tend to look for ideas as though they are “out there” for us to go and get. However, it’s the ideas that find us and just won’t let go, that we pursue – no matter what. It really comes down to where they sit deep within our core, how passionate we are about them, and how that passion drives us to keep going in spite of our doubts, fears, or failures.
When you become inspired and motivated to act on an idea, there will come a time when you will face adversity and setbacks. If the idea has found you and it just won’t let go, you will find the resilience to pursue it against all odds. You will be able to face the setbacks, ignore the self-doubt, and climb over the obstacles that others will place in your way.
